We are exploring the nature of stress, its effect on human functioning, and techniques to minimize stress. What is the biggest source of stress you have in your life? What is the most effective technique you have used to handle it?

This week we have two graded topic areas. In this first threaded discussion area we will review Stress.

(Given an account of a stressful personal or professional situation, identify the sources of the stress, evaluate the impact of the stressors, and identify several stress management techniques appropriate for the situation).

Let’s begin by responding to the following questions (also listed above):

  1. What is the biggest source of stress [stressor(s)] you have in your life?
  2. What is the most effective technique you have used to handle it?

As you know it takes everyone involved to create meaningful discussions so beginning this week, I would like to see each student respond to at least three other student posts in the threads. It’s interesting to find out the many different things that cause stress. Whether its a major or minor situation it can still cause stress. The stressor that I found interesting was the one that is imaginary. This seems to the picture we paint for ourselves what the outcome of a situation will be. I find myself doing this on many occasions. I have so much going on that sometimes if I’m trying to remind myself of something that needs to be done I’ll play out this scene in my mind what would happen if I don’t get it done. It becomes extremely stressful at times. I think I have an ongoing stressor in my life. This is the one that causes eustress which are the positive results of a situation that requires the body to change or adapt…
