How important is sleep to your overall functioning throughout the day? What are you doing to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep?

(Given a fellow student, family member, or employee who is having difficulty paying attention or is looking for ways to relax or become more self-aware, analyze the factors that affect consciousness, alertness, and self-awareness).

Let’s begin this discussion by responding to the following questions:

(1) How important is sleep to your overall functioning throughout the day?
(2) What are you doing to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep?

I had postpartum depression that lasted for over a year! I wasn’t sleeping, constantly worrying, would have episodes of crying, and a just over all feeling of down in the dumps. I was given medications and had a very good support system. My mother gave me the advice to sleep when my daughter was sleeping. It would help me to get every bit of rest while the opportunity was there. I would always find something that wasn’t done: the cleaning, cooking, taking a shower. I was always tired and nothing ever seemed to get done. I gave in eventually and started taking afternoon naps with my daughter. I felt so much better with the extra rest. My advice to new parents: there will always be an unfinished list, but your rest and health are more important! Sleep when your baby sleeps…
